Inspirational Stories: Akhila BS's accomplishment was not hampered by her disability; in fact, she passed the civil service exam in 2022 and earned the 760th rank. A 28-year-old lady who lost her right arm in a bus accident when she was five years old performed extraordinarily well on the most famous test in the country. On September 11, 2000, an accident happened to Akhila. German doctors were consulted after she had her right arm amputated below the shoulder. However, even after being evaluated by a German medical team in India, her arms were not fixed because she had lost the point of her shoulder.
After that, Akhila started writing and using her left arm to carry out daily tasks. In her board exams, she received the best possible grades. She graduated from IIT Madras with an Integrated MA before starting her civil service training. This time, Akhila was making her third attempt. On her first two tries, she was able to pass the entrance exams. When discussing her experience, Akhila conveyed her joy and thankfulness. She told ANI that one of her professors had advised her on the Collector profession, which had inspired her to focus on UPSC test preparation.
She reported that using her left hand and sitting for extended periods of time while feeling back pain were challenging problems during the preparations and the exam. It was challenging for her to write for three or four hours. She used to feel uncomfortable and exhausted. Prior to the big tests, she had to write nonstop for three days. She found it challenging. But she was determined to study for the upcoming exam and to keep trying till she was accepted into the service of her choosing because she had set herself the goal of becoming an IAS. She decided to give everything she had.
Since the UPSC results were made public, several success stories have been written. The tale of Akhila BS, who overcame a disability to earn an All India 760 rating in the UPSC 2022 exam, stands out above the rest. She lost her right arm in a bus accident when she was just five years old. She nonetheless succeeded in passing one of India's most challenging tests.
