When Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar was resigning, one of the leading Rajya Sabha members and a senior Advocate, Kapil Sibal, talked of his close personal association over decades. Speaking visibly emotional, Sibal not only defined Dhankhar as a political leader but said that he had entered his own life. I hope he will be feeling well. I am hurt because we had a special bonhomie, said Sibal. The two were well acquainted with more than 30-40 years between them and had often confronted one another in courts of law and, nevertheless, always with great reverence.
More Than Just Politics: A Personal Connection
Although Sibal did admit that their political ideologies were different, he underscored the fact that Jagdeep Dhankar never allowed that to come in the way of their relationship. He remembered how Dhankhar had always granted him extra time to talk in the House, in fact, more so than was being awarded to independent members. Sibal, who has worked with Dhankhar as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence, recounted how he never said no, and has always respected her, even attending family functions. These expressions, he said, were unusual in political life and gave a human accent to the sessions of parliament.
Wishing Good Health and Long Life
As Jagdeep Dhankar drops out of public life citing health reasons, Kapil Sibal\’s words also acted as a reminder that beyond political party lines and ideological disputes, human relationships and respect for one another still count in Indian politics.
Kapil Sibal Laments at the Resignation of Jagdeep Dhankar. Regardless of the political contrast, the two were connected in a 40-year relationship built on mutual respect, warmth, and unrivaled parliamentary politeness.
