IIT Bombay: The investigation into IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode’s death has taken a new turn, with leaked CCTV footage from the exam hall circulating on social media even as the Mumbai Police Crime Branch continues its own review. Meanwhile, Sahil’s parents began an indefinite hunger strike in Mumbai on September 24, demanding arrests and a swift investigation.

What The Leaked Footage Shows
Clips shared widely online show Wakode being questioned by Professor Suryanarayana Doolla during the exam on September 18, between roughly 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm. Wakode is seen handing over his phone before being escorted out. The clip has drawn divided reactions, with some questioning who leaked it, while others cited it as contradicting claims of a harsher confrontation.
What The FIR Alleges
The FIR, filed by Sahil’s father Ravindra Wakode, names Professor Doolla and includes charges of abetment to suicide alongside the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The family alleges months of caste-based harassment. IIT Bombay has denied Wakode ever raised such a complaint with its SC/ST cell.
Official Investigation Ongoing
The Crime Branch has been independently analysing footage from the exam hall, hostel and campus to build a timeline. Officials say Wakode reached his hostel room around 1:25 pm and did not step out again. Investigators are also examining a call where he told his girlfriend he’d made a mistake on his Thermodynamics paper.
Parents Begin Hunger Strike
IIT Bombay:On Thursday evening, Ravindra and Sonali Wakode began an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan after meeting National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairman Kishor Makwana. “Those who tortured my son should be put behind bars,” Ravindra said, demanding arrests and a fast-track trial.
