Mahashivratri 2024: In Hinduism, Mahashivratri is revered as a sacred occasion. On this day, it is customary to worship Lord Shiva. Additionally, Shivalinga is consecrated. The scriptures state that the purpose of the Mahashivratri festival, which falls in the month of Phalgun, is to honour Shiva and Parvati’s marriage. Let us tell you How did the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati take place?
Mother Sati’s Deep Affection for Lord Shiva
Mother Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksh, yearned for marriage to Lord Shiva since she loved him so deeply. Daksh insulted Lord Shiva and declined to wed Mother Sati when she told him she loved him and wanted to be married to him.
Following this, Mother Sati wed Lord Shiva, defying her father. This infuriated Prajapati Daksh, who left his daughter Sati behind. A Mahayagya was once arranged by Prajapati Daksh, but Lord Shiva and Mother Sati were not invited.
Nevertheless, Mother Sati persisted in her demands for Lord Shiva, and she went to the Yagya without asking his consent, where Daksh mistreated and derided Lord Shiva. When Mother Sati heard such remarks about her husband, she became enraged and gave up on life. Mother Sati was reborn as Parvati, the Himalayan King’s daughter, following this.
However, Lord Shiva had refused to marry Mother Parvati in that birth because she was tied to the human body. In such a situation, Mother Parvati got very angry. Mother Parvati performed severe penance by renouncing food and water for 12000 years and Lord Shiva, pleased with her penance, accepted her as his wife.
