Navratri 2023 Day 8: Ashtami Tithi and Navami Tithi are considered to be the most important days of Navratri. The eighth day of Navratri is Maha Ashtami. Maa Durga is the object of adoration on this day. Ashtami falls on a Sunday, October 22, this year. Devotees rejoice on Durga Ashtami, honouring Maa Mahagauri, the eighth manifestation of Goddess Durga.
A Tale of Devotion and Transformation
Folklore holds that Goddess Parvati had to beg Lord Shiva to become her husband. She had to suffer many hardships during her penance, such living off of leaves and spending time in untamed woodlands. These circumstances caused her skin to darken. Her complexion changed when Lord Shiva bathed her with Ganges water after he had accepted her as his wife. She goes by the name Mahagauri for this reason.

Performing Mahagauri Puja on Maha Ashtami
Start your day right by taking a bath and getting dressed in clean clothes in the morning. After that, give Maa Durga clothes in either red or white, with red being the lucky colour. Apply kumkum and roli after the clothes offering, and place flowers at the deity idol's feet. Continue by presenting Mata Mahagauri with five different kinds of sweets and fruits. Respect the Ashtami worship customs, repeating the holy Goddess Mantra with fervour. After that, offer Maa Gauri a bhog and do the aarti for her. Close your worship by bringing your hands together in prayer, asking for forgiveness of any transgressions, and ending your time in worship.
