Online Fraud Alert: With the rise of digital transactions, online fraudsters are finding smarter ways to scam people. As artificial intelligence advances, scammers are using it to make their schemes look more convincing. They often target vulnerable individuals, tricking them into losing thousands or even lakhs of rupees. However, a recent viral incident on X has shown how a man from Uttar Pradesh turned the tables on a conman posing as a CBI DSP.
A user named 'ProfSudhaanshu' shared a series of tweets detailing how a man named Anuj Bajpai from Unnao played along with a fraudster, ultimately scamming him instead. Let’s dive into the details of this incredible story.
Fake CBI DSP Threatens Anuj Bajpai With Objectionable Video
Anuj Bajpai, a resident of Kanpur, received a call from a man claiming to be a CBI DSP. The fraudster tried to scare him by saying, "Anuj Ji, we have received an objectionable video of yours, and an FIR has been filed. There is no way for you to escape unless you pay a fine of ₹16,000."

अगर अपनी इज्जत सही सलामत चाहते हो तो… pic.twitter.com/CaMv5krba3
Panicked, Anuj acted worried and pleaded, "Sir, please don’t do this! Don’t tell my parents. Give me one day, I will arrange the money."
The so-called CBI officer, pretending to be generous, agreed to give him 24 hours to arrange the money.
How Anuj Tricked the Fraudster into Paying Him Money
The next day, when the fraudster called again, Anuj had a plan. He told the fake officer, "Sir, I had stolen a gold chain from my house and pawned it for ₹3,000. It’s a heavy chain. If you give me ₹3,000, I can release it, sell it, and return your ₹16,000 plus ₹3,000."

Falling for the trick, the fraudster actually sent Anuj ₹3,000. But Anuj didn't stop there. The next day, he told the conman, "Sir, the goldsmith is refusing to return the chain without interest. He says I need to pay ₹4,000 more. Could you talk to him as my father?"
Once again, the fraudster played along and agreed to act as Anuj’s father. After speaking with the goldsmith, he believed the story and sent ₹4,000 more.
Fraudster Loses Even More Money Before Realising the Scam
Once again, Anuj came up with another excuse. He told the fake DSP that since he was a minor, no one was willing to buy the gold chain from him. However, he had found a company that would offer him a loan of Rs 1.1 lakh, but he needed to pay a processing fee of Rs 3,000.
Shockingly, the scammer, who had already sent ₹7,000, ended up sending another ₹3,000, bringing the total to ₹10,000.

But this time, he demanded that Anuj return the money, claiming, “My wife had the last three thousand rupees, she was not giving it, so I slapped her twice and took the money.”

At this point, Anuj had had enough fun. In true Kanpuriya style, he responded with a sarcastic remark, telling the scammer to “Get lost”, exposing his fraud. Not only did Anuj manage to scam the scammer, but he also reported the fraudster’s number to the cyber cell.
What to Do If You Encounter Such a Scam
- Do Not Panic – Scammers use fear to pressure you into sending money. Stay calm and think logically.
- Verify the Caller – No official government agency asks for payments over the phone.
- Never Share OTPs or Bank Details – Avoid scanning QR codes or making payments to unknown people.
- Report the Fraud – If you receive such a call, immediately report it to the Cyber Crime helpline or visit cybercrime.gov.in.
