In India, passports are generally valid for ten years, but renewal becomes necessary when they expire or your address changes. Here’s your comprehensive guide to passport renewal with an address change.

When to Renew Your Passport with an Address Change

  • Your current passport is nearing expiry (within one year).
  • Your passport has already expired (up to three years after expiry).
  • You’ve recently changed your address.

Documents Required for Renewal with Address Change

  • Your valid passport (or expired passport if applicable).
  • Photocopies of the first and last two pages of your existing passport.
  • Self-attested photocopy of the ECR/Non-ECR page (emigration status).
  • Proof of your new address (utility bill, Aadhaar card, etc.). This is important for address change!
  • Photocopy of the extension page (if your previous passport had validity extended).
  • Self-attested photocopy of any observation page in your existing passport.

Renewing Your Passport Online with Address Change

The easiest way to renew your passport is online through the Passport Seva website. Here’s a simplified guide:

  1. Visit the Passport Seva website: https://www.passportindia.gov.in/
  2. Register if you haven’t already. You’ll receive a login ID upon registration.
  3. Login using your credentials.
  4. Select “Apply for a New Passport/Re-issue of Passport”.
  5. Fill out the application form carefully, including your new address.
  6. Choose “Payment and Scheduling of Appointment”.
  7. Make the payment using the available online options.
  8. Submit the completed application form.
  9. Print the application receipt for your records.
  10. Visit your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) on the scheduled date with your documents and printed receipt.

Scheduling an Appointment (if not done during online application)

  1. Login to the Passport Seva website.
  2. Go to “View Saved and Submitted Application” and then “Pay and Schedule Appointment”.
  3. Choose your preferred payment method and select the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) you want to visit.
  4. Confirm your PSK selection and enter the CAPTCHA code.
  5. Choose an appointment slot from the available dates and book it.

When visiting the PSK, carry your original documents, printed application form, and any additional documents requested by the authorities.
