Peyush Bansal: Massive social media controversy has erupted after a purported excerpt from the Uniform and Grooming Guide of popular eyewear company Lenskart went viral.
The document claimed restrictions on specific religious symbols of the Hindu culture like tilak, kalawa and bindi while allowing forms of expression for other religious like Muslim culture’s hijab. This prompted co-founder and CEO of Lenskart Peyush Bansal to issue a clarification.
Peyush Bansal-How The Controversy Erupted?
The controversy erupted after writer Shefali Vaidya shared a screenshot. She alleged that the internal grooming guidelines of the company treated religious symbols differently.
Soon, the allegations transformed into a wider debate, with many users criticizing the hypocrisy of organizations such as Lenskart. Many users even threatened to boycott Lenskart and remarked that any perceived restriction on religious expressions may alienate a huge section of consumers.
Peyush Bansal’s Response
Responding to the controversy, Bansal posted on X that was viral document was not a true and complete representative of Lenskart’s present stance. Bansal went on to add that the Uniform and Grooming Guide of Lenskart has no restrictions whatsoever on any form of religious expression, including tilak or bindi.

Vaidya’s Response To Peyush Bansal
Shefali Vaidya responded to the post by Peyush Bansal by saying that the explanation by the Shark Tank star makes no sense whatsoever as the document is from February 2026. Vaidya asked Bansal to share the current guidelines if the “biased and hypocrite” document didn’t reflected the current stance of Lenskart.
Shefali went on to post on X she is surprised that a company like Lenskart would have such a stupid and blatantly discriminatory style document in place as a policy for even a day in a Hindu majority country, where majority of the customers are Hindus.
