PM GatiShakti: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of the greenfield access-controlled Nashik- Solapur-Akkalkot Corridor. The 6-lane corridor in Maharashtra on BOT (Toll) mode will be built at a cost of Rs. 19,142 crore.
What does PM GatiShakti Nashik–Solapur–Akkalkot Corridor promises?
The project will offer connectivity to cities such as Ahilyanagar, Nashik and Solapur connecting to Kurnool.
Chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs proposed connectivity to Agra-Mumbai corridor at Nashik at junction with NH-60 (Adegaon), Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Vadhawan port interchange and Samruddhi Mahamarg at Pangri (near Nashik).
The corridor will enhance travel efficiency and reduce travel time by as much as 17 hours. It will also minimize the travel distance by as much as 201 kilometers. Logistics efficiency for freight terminating and originating at major National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) nodes of Kopparthy and Orvakal will be enhanced by Nashik – Akkalkot (Solapur) connectivity.
How many jobs will be generated?
The project will generate about 313.83 lakh man-days of indirect employment as well as 251.06 lakh man-days of direct employment. It will also encourage additional employment opportunities because of an economic activity surge in the vicinity of the proposed corridor.
The project will improve the region’s basic infrastructure, contributing the economic development of Solapur, Ahilyanagar, Dharashiv and Nashik districts.
