Pravasi Bharatiya Divas: President of Suriname addresses PM Modi in Hindi and laments the passing of his mother; watch video

While speaking at the 17th PBD Convention being held in Indore on Monday, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, the President of the Republic of Suriname, greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hindi with “Aapko hridaya se mera namaskar.” The mother of the prime minister passed away, and the president of Suriname, expressed his condolences.

Santokhi stated, “Today, it is my great honour to step foot on the soil of mesmerizing Indore and lovely MP, known as the cleanest city in India and developing into one of the smart cities.

President of Suriname Chandrika Persad Santohki and President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Dr.Mohamed Irfaan Ali invited as special guest of honour.

Addressing NRIs, he continued, “For Caribbean and Indian diaspora, an institute can be established in the Caribbean for training in Hindi, culture, etc., and an academy can be established in the Caribbean for supporting the film industry, where diaspora youth can showcase talent and train in Yoga, Ayurveda, and spirituality as a way of life.

He also emphasised the need of learning Hindi and suggested setting up a fund for diaspora-related projects and initiatives in the area. Initiate the establishment of training facilities and schools in various regions of our country so that people there can learn Hindi and about our own religions, cultures, and traditions.

Launch of Commemorative Stamp

At the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Indore on Monday, Prime Minister Modi, President of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi, and President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali unveiled the commemorative stamp. “Go Safe Go Trained” appears on the stamp.
