Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Welcomes Approval of Panjab University Senate Elections

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday described the approval of the Panjab University Senate elections by Vice President and Chancellor C.P. Radhakrishnan as a “remarkable victory for the entire state.” Calling the decision a major milestone, the Chief Minister emphasized that Panjab University is not merely an educational institution but a living symbol of Punjab’s heritage, culture and academic excellence.

The announcement comes after months of uncertainty surrounding the Senate elections, during which students, faculty members and several Punjabi stakeholders consistently demanded that the democratic process be restored. According to CM Mann, the approval reflects the “success of persistent struggle, unity and courage of Punjab’s academic community.”

Panjab University: A Heritage Institution With Deep Emotional Connect

Established in 1882, Panjab University is one of the oldest and most respected institutions in India. It has produced countless scholars, journalists, scientists, administrators and sportspersons who have elevated the name of Punjab across the world. Bhagwant Mann reiterated that the university’s rich legacy must be protected at all costs, especially at a time when several attempts were allegedly made to dilute Punjab’s role in the institution’s governance.

He added that Panjab University has always been a symbol of Punjab’s intellectual identity, and hence the restoration of Senate elections carries enormous emotional significance for the people of the state.

Struggle of Students, Faculty and Alumni Finally Pays Off

The Chief Minister lauded the determination of students, teachers, faculty members and every Punjabi who continued their democratic fight despite pressure. “They did not let their courage break,” Mann said, adding that their unwavering spirit ensured that democracy ultimately prevailed.

Supporters of the movement celebrated the approval as a victory for academic autonomy and a step towards strengthening the university’s historical structure. Many believe that the election process will now bring transparency, restore accountability and allow the university community to participate actively in major decisions.

A Boost for Punjab’s Education Ecosystem

With the Senate elections now back on track, experts say it will pave the way for improved governance and reforms within the institution. The revival of democratic functioning is expected to enhance decision-making regarding academics, finances, campus development and student welfare.

This development is seen as a positive step not only for Panjab University but also for Punjab’s overall higher-education framework.
