Punjab News: Education in Punjab is witnessing a positive shift under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, as the state government has introduced a free bus service for students in more than 200 government schools. This initiative aims to remove a long-standing barrier to education—safe and reliable transportation.
Bhagwant Mann Government Introduces Free Bus Service
For many children, particularly those living in rural and far-flung areas, the distance between home and school often meant missing out on regular classes. Parents worried about the safety of their children, especially daughters, who had to travel long stretches to reach school. Students, too, often faced fear, fatigue, and irregular attendance. Recognising this challenge, the Mann government has launched the free school bus service, ensuring that students can now reach schools safely, comfortably, and on time.
The government believes this initiative will boost attendance
Take the example of Sargun, a young girl who earlier had to travel nearly 10 kilometers daily to attend school. Her parents were constantly worried about her safety, while she often felt anxious on the journey. Now, with the free bus service, Sargun and thousands of other children across Punjab can focus on studies without fear or stress.
The government believes this initiative will boost attendance, reduce dropouts, and promote equal opportunities in education. Providing free transport also ensures that no child is deprived of education because of distance or financial constraints. This is part of the Mann government’s broader Mission Education, which is focused on upgrading school infrastructure, modernizing classrooms, and strengthening opportunities for students in Punjab.
With this move, the Mann government is not only improving accessibility but also reassuring parents that their children, especially girls, are safe while pursuing their dreams of education.
