Punjab News: Power Minister Harbhajan Singh announced on Tuesday that the state government is conducting regular checks and raids to curb power theft and revenue loss. The minister highlighted that FIRs have been registered against 90 consumers in Patiala Zone, 79 in Amritsar Zone, 71 in Bathinda Zone, 29 in Ludhiana Zone, and 27 in Jalandhar Zone as part of the state’s efforts to crack down on illegal power consumption.
Zero-Tolerance on Corruption
Emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption, Harbhajan Singh revealed that 37 outsourced meter-readers and one supervisor were terminated for engaging in corrupt practices during July and August. He reaffirmed that no form of corruption or power theft would be tolerated under any circumstances.
Special Inspections Ordered
The minister further instructed the state power department to conduct extensive special inspections across Punjab to prevent power theft and recover losses caused by these illegal activities. These efforts are part of the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the power sector.
