Punjab News: The Punjab Police’s NRI Affairs Wing, in collaboration with the Cybercrime Wing and the Protectorate of Emigrants, has intensified its campaign against illegal travel agents. In a coordinated effort, 18 travel agencies across the state have been booked for unlawfully advertising employment opportunities on social media platforms.
Punjab Police Crack Down on Illegal Travel Agents
This recent action follows the registration of 20 FIRs against 25 illegal travel agencies in August, as part of the ongoing crackdown on fraudulent recruitment practices. The Protectorate of Emigrants flagged the illegal advertisements after a covert investigation verified the credentials of these agencies.
“We checked the online platforms, verified their credentials covertly, and registered FIRs against them,” said ADGP Sinha. A total of 18 new FIRs have been registered under Sections 24/25 of the Emigration Act at various NRI police stations. Of these, six were registered in September and 12 in October.
18 New FIRs Registered
The ADGP further stated that, out of the 34 accused individuals named in 26 FIRs filed in August and September, 25 have already been arrested. Investigations are ongoing, and notices are being sent to the remaining accused agents.
The Punjab Police’s continued crackdown aims to curb the exploitation of job seekers by fraudulent travel agents who prey on the NRI community through social media scams.
