Punjab News: In a decisive move to safeguard aspiring youth from fraudulent travel agents, the Punjab Police’s NRI Affairs and Cyber Crime Wings, in collaboration with the Protectorate of Emigrants, Chandigarh, have launched a crackdown on 25 illegal travel agents operating in the state.
These agents were implicated in unlawfully advertising overseas job opportunities on social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. The advertisements, flagged by the Protectorate of Emigrants, were identified as coming from agencies lacking proper licenses and permissions.
ADGP (NRI Affairs) Praveen K. Sinha disclosed that covert investigations led to the identification of these unauthorized postings. As a result, 20 FIRs have been registered at various NRI Police Stations across Punjab, including Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana.
Operation to Safeguard Youth
The Punjab Police’s crackdown comes in response to a growing number of cases where youth, seeking employment abroad, have been misled by unauthorized travel agents. These agents often lure individuals with promises of high-paying jobs overseas, but fail to provide the proper documentation or job placements, leaving many in precarious situations abroad.
In light of this, the Punjab Police have reiterated the importance of verifying the credentials of any travel agency before proceeding with job applications. ADGP Sinha emphasized that the department will continue to monitor social media platforms for fraudulent activities and urged the public to report suspicious job postings.
Collaborative Efforts to Curb Fraud
The operation, supported by the Protectorate of Emigrants, demonstrates the state’s commitment to cracking down on illegal travel agencies. Officials from both departments are working closely to ensure that only licensed agents are permitted to operate within Punjab. They have also implemented measures to create public awareness about safe practices when seeking employment abroad.
The Punjab Police assured that further actions would be taken to protect youth from exploitation, ensuring a safe and transparent process for overseas employment.
