Punjab News: To promote the use of renewable energy in the agriculture sector, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) will install 2,356 solar pumps dedicated to agricultural purposes. The announcement was made by Punjab’s Minister for New and Renewable Energy Sources, Aman Arora, on Saturday.
The minister handed over work orders for the installation of these pumps, which are expected to be completed within four months. The initiative aims to harness solar energy to reduce dependency on conventional power sources in farming operations.
Transparent Bidding Process Ensures Fair Selection
Arora stated that companies responsible for the installations were selected through a transparent and competitive bidding process, ensuring quality and efficiency in execution.
Subsidies to Benefit Farmers
The government has introduced substantial subsidies for farmers to encourage participation in the program. General category farmers are eligible for a 60% subsidy, while Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers will receive an 80% subsidy. The solar pumps will be available in various capacities, including 3HP, 5HP, 7.5HP, and 10HP, catering to diverse agricultural needs.
Boost to Sustainable Agriculture
The installation of solar pumps is part of Punjab’s broader efforts to integrate renewable energy solutions into the agricultural sector, reduce electricity costs, and promote sustainable farming practices.
