The temperature in Rajasthan is expected to soar past 48 degrees Celsius, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a heatwave red alert in several parts of the state. Cities like Phalodi, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Sri Ganganagar are already experiencing extreme conditions, and the situation may worsen in the coming days.

IMD Warned Severe Heatwave

The IMD has warned of severe heatwave conditions persisting over the next 3–4 days. Daytime temperatures may breach record highs, especially in western Rajasthan. The intense heat is being attributed to a delay in monsoon advancement and persistent dry winds from the northwest.

Health experts have urged people to take necessary precautions.

The elderly, children, and those with existing medical conditions are most at risk. Citizens are advised to:

Stay indoors during peak heat hours (12 PM to 4 PM)

Keep themselves hydrated by drinking water frequently

Wear light, breathable clothing

Avoid outdoor physical activity during the day.

Local administrations have been directed to ensure water availability, set up heat shelters, and be prepared for any medical emergencies caused by heatstroke or dehydration.

Meanwhile, farmers are also facing challenges as the scorching temperatures impact crops and livestock. Agricultural experts have recommended the use of shade nets and timely irrigation to minimize losses.

The IMD has assured that it is monitoring the situation closely and will provide timely updates. Relief is expected only after the arrival of monsoon winds, which are currently delayed.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses. Authorities have been put on alert, especially in regions like Phalodi, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Sri Ganganagar, which often record some of the highest temperatures in the country during summer.

The IMD has urged people to remain cautious as the heatwave may intensify in the next 48 hours.
