Rupali Chakankar: State NCP women wing president Rupali Chakankar has submitted her resignation after the arrest of celebrity astrologer and cosmologist Ashok Kharat for filming objectionable videos of women and a case of sexual assault.

The Maharashtra State Commission for Women Rupali met Sunetra Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister and NCP national president, tendered her resignation. The letter was addressed to Devendra Fadnavis, the state Home Minister and Maharashtra Chief Minister.

In a post on social media platforms, Chakankar said she is submitting her resignation from the chairperson of Maharashtra State Commission for Women due to her personal reasons.
Chakankar came under fire from opposition parties after several of her videos surfaced praising Kharat.
Kharat, the chairman of the Shri Shivnika Sansthan, is presently under the arrest of Unit 1 of the Crime Branch CID based on a complaint lodged in the Sarkarwada Police Station. As per the investigations so far, the godman leveraged his political-social connections and influence to gain the trust of women.
Ashok Kharat Booked Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Kharat used to exploit women under the guise of spiritual or religious rituals. The godman has now been booked under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections associated with criminal intimidation and rape. He has also been booked under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act.
Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy leader Sushma Andhare made a request for the demand of Rupali Chakankar. Andhare remarked the financial dealings of Rupali with Ashok Karat must be evaluated. Andhare went on to demand that Rupali should be subjected to naro tests and her call detail record (CDR) should be examined.
Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, the Water Resources Minister, remarked that the Maharashtra Police must probe the trust of Ashok Karat and his realty and financial sector dealings.
