Today is the Shani Pradosh fast of Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha. This fast has a great belief in Hinduism. By observing this fast, Lord Shiva along with Shani Dev, the god of justice, blesses the devotees. Pradosh Vrat comes twice in every month on Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla and Krishna Paksha. At present, Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month is going on.
Importance of fasting
By observing this fast today, one gets the boon of long life. Pradosh Vrat is considered to be the main for the blessings of Lord Shiva, but by observing Shani Pradosh Vrat one gets the blessings of Lord Shiva as well as Shani Dev. Along with Lord Shiva, Shani Dev should also be worshiped on this day. According to the belief, keeping this fast removes all the sufferings of the people and the person also attains salvation after death.
The Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month starts at 06:54 am on Saturday, 18th September. It will end the next day on 19th September at 05:59 am.The people observing the fast will get the auspicious time of 02 hours 21 minutes in the evening for worshiping Shiva and Mata Parvati. On this day, from 06.23 pm to 08.44 pm, Pradosh fast rituals and pooja can be performed.
Method of worship
Chant Pradosh fast mantra in the Shiva temple in the evening. On Shani Pradosh fast day, wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Purify the place of worship by holy water of ganges, wearing clean clothes. Worship Lord Shiva with Belpatra, Akshat, Deep, Dhoop, Gangajal etc. After this chant Om Namah Shivaya and offer water to Shiva. Light a lamp of mustard oil under the Peepal tree to worship Shani. Light a lamp in the temple of Shani Dev. Udyapan of the fast should be done on Trayodashi Tithi only.
