Som Pradosh Vrat 2021: Today is Som Pradosh Vrat. Pradosh fast is observed every month on Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. This month this fast is observed today i.e. on 4th October. The fast that falls on Monday is called Som Pradosh Vrat. By observing Som Pradosh fast and worshiping Lord Shiva with a sincere heart, one gets freedom from all troubles. Som Pradosham is also called Chandra Pradosham. This fast is considered important for fulfillment of wishes.

Importance of Som Pradosh Vrat

The time after sunset and before the darkness of night is called Pradosh Kaal. Worship of Lord Shiva during the Pradosh period is considered to have special significance. All the wishes of those who keep the fast with a sincere heart are fulfilled. It is considered very auspicious to observe Pradosh fast in Kaliyuga. Worshiping Lord Shiva not only removes all the sufferings of the person, but the person also attains salvation after death. According to the Puranas, the result of observing one Pradosh fast is equal to the donation of two cows.

Fasting rules and regulations

Som Pradosh fasting is a bit difficult. This fast is kept waterless, water is not drunk during the whole fast. Waking up early in the morning, after bathing Lord Shiva is worshipped. To observe Pradosh Vrat, first of all, get up before sunrise on Trayodashi. After taking bath, wear clean clothes and offer Bel Patra to Lord Shiva, after that worship god with Akshat, Deep, Dhoop, Gangajal etc.

Chant this mantra

After fasting for the whole day, take a bath again sometime before sunset and wear white colored clothes. Purify the place of worship with Ganga water. After this, prepare a mandap with cow dung and make rangoli with five colors in the mandap. After preparing for the worship, sit on the seat facing the north-east direction and chant Lord Shiva's mantra Om Namah Shivay and offer water to Shiva.
