This International Day of Peace, 7 Unique Facts About the global humanitarian leader and spiritual master Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s peace initiatives that you didn’t know!

From war zones to prisons, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living has healed trauma, fostered reconciliation, and built peace through Sudarshan Kriya.

8,000+ Ukrainian soldiers and civilians found peace through meditation and
Sudarshan Kriya, cognized by Gurudev.

Under Gurudev’s guidance, Art of Living facilitated rare reconciliatory meetings
where Colombian rebel leaders publicly sought forgiveness from victims’ families.
Fabiola Perdomo, wife of a congressman killed by FARC, testified, “Forgiveness has
made me free, cleansed me, and it has prepared me to build a new life.”

A key Maoist leader said to the Art of Living teacher, “I was searching for your Guru.
I have heard he shows people the right path.” He later surrendered, which helped
turn the 300-km Bihar–Nepal border into a peace zone.

In Ivory Coast, Gurudev’s initiative brought together 30 members of the warring
Gueres and Dioula tribes. They learned Sudarshan Kriya, which helped release their
trauma. They renounced violence and promised to rebuild each other’s houses.

Over 800,000 prisoners across the world have experienced inner freedom within the
confines of prisons, owing to Gurudev’s wisdom, breathing techniques like
Sudarshan Kriya, and unique meditations.

Gurudev hosted Paigam-e-Mohabbat, where 200 Kashmiri families, including those
of martyred security personnel, victims of cross-firing, and slain youth, came
together on one stage, opening hearts and connecting beyond conflict.

In Bihar, where violence between the Ranvir Sena and CPIML had scarred
generations, Gurudev’s presence opened doors to dialogue. His guidance and love transformed deep-seated hostility into a step towards peace and reconciliation. A community fest organised in Narhi brought sworn enemies to the common table.

More than 700 former militants, including 231 from ULFA, came to the Art of Living
center for 40 days for rehabilitation training and left with an unburdened heart,
rekindled hope, and the courage to walk a path of peace.

“I cried and cried. I finally realized what life was meant to be about. I thought this
training should have come earlier in my life.” Shared R Deka, former district
in-charge, ULFA.

More than 25,000 people underwent Gurudev’s post-traumatic stress relief programs
after the largest tsunami ever to hit India. Survivors reported feeling profound relief
after the program.

Where water wars had raged on and people resorted to getting water from tankers,
standing in queues for long to collect a bucket of water, many regions in
Marathwada, including Latur, have sufficient water thanks to the water conservation
work done by The Art of Living under Gurudev’s guidance.
