Old Pension Scheme

Old Pension Scheme: The Maharashtra Government has ruled that under the advertisement released for the recruitment of government posts before to November 2005, government employees who joined the government job on or after November 1, 2005 will be given the option of the old pension system. The state government made this significant move ahead of the state's Lok Sabha and Assembly elections later this year.

Winter Session Announcement

During the winter session of the Legislature last month in Nagpur, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar told employees that the benefits of the old pension scheme will be reinstated before the budget. According to Vishwas Katkar, general secretary of the Maharashtra State Employees Confederation, this move will help 26000 state government employees.

Employee Recruitment Timeline

Although these employees were appointed prior to November 2005, they did not begin work until after November 2005. Prior to November 2005, around 9.5 lakh government employees were recruited in the state government, and they are already receiving benefits under the old pension programme.

Central Government Employees' Demand

According to the statement made following the cabinet meeting, employees must decide within 6 months if they want to continue receiving benefits from the old pension scheme. The state's previous pension programme, under which employees got a monthly pension equal to 50% of their last wage, was phased out in 2005. Let us remind you that Central Government employees are also calling for the Old Pension Scheme to be reinstated.
