Sonam Wangchuk: Sonam Wangchuk’s fast has now entered into the most critical stage of the movement, where the protester has clearly said that he would only stop fasting if the government acts on three important demands raised by him. 

Why the Protest Has Reached This Stage?

In the wake of several weeks of fasting, the health of Wangchuk has deteriorated badly. His transfer to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital was done due to certain health-related issues, though Wangchuk apparently refused the same. His health problems have added more importance to the movement, with new debates over the handling of peaceful protests coming up. Even after being hospitalized, Wangchuk has maintained his stance and said that the movement will continue till some action is taken.

Ahead of the planned Sansad Chalo march, Wangchuk announced that he would consider ending his hunger strike only if one of the following conditions is met:

• The central government accepts responsibility for the concerns raised regarding the education system.
• Political leaders publicly assure that the issues raised by the protesters will be discussed inside Parliament.
• Authorities address his concerns regarding restrictions on his movement, communication, and freedom to peacefully protest

The movement intends to get the attention of the nation regarding irregularities in the education system. Even after Wangchuk’s hospitalization, the organizers have confirmed that the protest will continue regardless.

Sonam Wangchuk: In light of such a large number of people gathering at one place, the Delhi Police has made extensive security arrangements for the same. Extra manpower, barricades, checking of vehicles, and other surveillance measures have been made by the authorities to ensure law and order in the city during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
