UP Electricity Tariff Increase: Electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh may see an increase in their power bills in June 2026 after the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) directed the implementation of a 10% Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS).
According to a communication issued by UPPCL’s Regulatory Affairs Unit, the surcharge has been calculated in accordance with the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s MYT for Distribution Regulations, 2025.
UP Electricity Tariff Increase
The Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge is a mechanism that allows power distribution companies to recover additional costs incurred due to higher fuel prices and power purchase expenses.
Under the regulations, the surcharge for a particular month is levied three months later. Accordingly, the FPPAS calculated for March 2026 will be charged to consumers in June 2026.
Applicable to All Consumer Categories
The UPPCL directive states that the 10% FPPAS will be implemented across all categories of electricity consumers in the state as per regulatory provisions.
The corporation has instructed its IT and distribution departments to ensure the surcharge is reflected in June electricity bills and to upload relevant calculations on the official portal.
Impact on Consumers
The surcharge is expected to increase electricity bills for domestic, commercial, industrial, and other consumer categories during the June billing cycle.
Officials said the adjustment is linked to the rise in power procurement and transmission costs borne by distribution companies and is part of the regulatory framework approved by the state electricity regulator.
Regulatory Framework
The surcharge has been imposed under Clause 16(4) of the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) Regulations, 2025, which provides for periodic adjustment of electricity charges based on variations in fuel and power purchase costs.
The move is likely to affect millions of electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh during the upcoming billing period.
