UP News: In a major step towards modernizing public transport in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration is focused on providing more frequent, reliable, and sustainable city bus services across Uttar Pradesh’s rapidly growing urban centers.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Director of the Urban Transport Directorate saw the participation of top municipal officials, special purpose vehicle (SPV) heads, and divisional representatives from key cities, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, and Ghaziabad. The core agenda was to enhance urban mobility and ensure efficient public transport for the increasing urban population.
15-Minute City Bus Intervals
Commuters in 15 major cities of Uttar Pradesh will soon benefit from city buses running at 15-minute intervals. This ambitious move is designed to reduce wait times, improve convenience, and boost daily ridership, thereby making public transport a more attractive alternative to private vehicles.
Focus on Electric Vehicles and Sustainability
Special emphasis was placed on expanding EV infrastructure, as electric buses are already operational in all 15 cities. Municipal corporations were instructed to provide land promptly for EV-related facilities to support the state’s sustainability goals.
High-Quality Model Bus Stops
The Urban Transport Directorate mandated the development of high-quality model bus stops along operational routes to ensure commuter comfort and safety. Each city will form a joint committee, headed by the municipal commissioner, tasked with identifying suitable sites and ensuring timely implementation.
City-Centric Operations
To promote efficiency, buses will operate strictly within municipal limits, creating compact transit zones. This approach aims to streamline operations and support systematic urban mobility, especially important during upcoming festivals when travel demand is expected to surge.
The director stressed the importance of punctuality and smooth operations to ensure a positive public transport experience. The initiative reflects the UP government’s commitment to creating a more connected, sustainable, and commuter-friendly urban environment under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath.
