UP Weather Update: Rain Warning Across UP: Orange Alert as Monsoon Sweeps Entire State

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Uttar Pradesh as the southwest monsoon has officially covered the entire state, bringing widespread rainfall and a drop in temperatures. The monsoon, which arrived ahead of schedule in several regions, is expected to intensify in the coming days, prompting cautionary advisories from the state administration.

Heavy Rain Forecast Across Districts

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Bareilly. The alert signifies the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas, waterlogging, and disruption in transportation and power supply due to lightning and gusty winds.

Orange Alert Issued as Entire Uttar Pradesh Goes Under Monsoon Cover

“Moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are fuelling widespread rainfall across the region. Residents are advised to remain indoors during intense showers and avoid venturing into waterlogged areas,” an IMD official stated.

Schools, Traffic & Emergency Measures

District administrations in sensitive areas have placed disaster response teams on alert, and schools may be closed temporarily if the rainfall intensifies further. Traffic police in major cities have also been asked to manage congestion in high-risk areas, and urban flooding hotspots are being monitored closely.

Farmers Relieved, River Basins Under Watch

The rainfall comes as a relief for farmers, especially in central and eastern UP, where paddy transplantation was delayed due to dry conditions in early June. However, rivers like Ghaghra, Rapti, and Sharda are under strict observation for any signs of swelling that may lead to flooding in the coming days.

The UP government has activated control rooms at the district and state levels to respond quickly to emergencies. Citizens can contact helplines for weather updates, flood warnings, and relief services.
