Vande Bharat Train Transforms Rail Travel in India, Serves 7.5 Crore Passengers Since 2019: PIB

India’s flagship semi-high-speed train service, Vande Bharat Train, has emerged as a major success story in the country’s railway modernisation drive. According to data shared by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Vande Bharat trains have provided faster, safer and more comfortable travel to over 7.5 crore passengers since their launch in 2019.

At present, 164 Vande Bharat train services are operational across the country, significantly enhancing rail connectivity and boosting tourism in 274 districts. The rapid expansion of these services reflects Indian Railways’ focus on improving passenger experience and reducing travel time on key routes.

Vande Bharat Train: Built Under Make in India Initiative

Manufactured entirely under the Make in India initiative, Vande Bharat trainsets are equipped with advanced, passenger-friendly features. These include automatic plug doors, rotating seats, bio-vacuum toilets, GPS-based passenger information systems and full CCTV surveillance, ensuring enhanced safety and comfort. The trains also offer smoother rides, improved acceleration and modern interiors comparable to global standards.

Strengthening Pilgrimage and Tourism Connectivity

PIB highlighted that several Vande Bharat routes have strengthened access to major religious and tourist destinations. The Delhi–Varanasi Vande Bharat Train connects the national capital with one of India’s most important spiritual centres, providing a reliable and time-efficient option for pilgrims and tourists alike.

Similarly, the Srinagar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra route has significantly improved connectivity to one of the country’s most revered pilgrimage sites, especially benefiting travellers visiting Jammu and Kashmir.

A New Era of Rail Travel

With growing passenger demand and expanding routes, Vande Bharat train is redefining rail travel in India. Indian Railways plans to further increase the number of services, positioning Vande Bharat as the backbone of modern, high-speed intercity travel in the years ahead.
