Voice Cloning Fraud

Voice Cloning Fraud: The State Bank of India has released a warning regarding a fresh danger presented by cybercriminals who are cloning people’s voices using artificial intelligence. The bank demonstrated how these thieves can impersonate a person’s voice with only a few seconds of audio in a video that was shared on Twitter. They phone gullible people and deceive them into divulging private information or sending money by using this voice clone.

Artificial Intelligence Voice Cloning

DGP Shri Ashok Kumar of Uttarakhand claims that fraudsters use artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic voices, which they then exploit to trick victims into thinking they are speaking with a familiar face or relative. They pose as having crises, saying they’ve been in an accident or are in danger, and they ask for money transfers. Kumar advises people to take at least two minutes to enquire and check the caller’s identity, stressing the significance of doing so and delaying the transfer of funds.

Ending Suspicious Calls

The State Bank of India advises ending any questionable calls and contacting oneself back to confirm the legitimacy of the request in order to counteract this growing menace. People are also advised to exercise caution when answering phone calls requesting personal information or money, and to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the National Cyber Helpline.

How To protect yourself from voice cloning fraud

  • Minimize your online speech sharing to reduce your exposure.
  • When you get an unexpected call, be wary and make sure the caller is who they say they are before giving up any personal or financial information.
  • When on the phone, pay close attention to any unusual signals that could point to a cloned voice.

Evolving Threat Landscape

This caution reminds readers of the constantly changing strategies employed by hackers and stresses the need to be on the lookout for potential scams. People can safeguard themselves against being victims of voice cloning scams and other types of cyber crime by being aware and using care.
