Phillip Hughes was batting brilliantly on 63 not out on November 25, 2014, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, during the Sheffield Shield Game between New South Wales and South Australia. After a poor two series, Hughes was the favourite to return to the Australian Test team. However, nobody sae the unfortunate event coming that claimed the live of the 25-year-old cricketer.

Sean Abbott’s short ball was faced up by Hughes on 63, but he missed it. However, unprotected side of the head was struck by the ball. Hughes was startled,and to everyone’s horror, Hughes passed out and had to be urgently airlifted to a Sydney hospital. After the operation, on November 27, Phillip Hughes, who was only 25 years old, passed away. In the world of cricket, there was an unprecedented outpouring of sorrow and emotion. The town of Mackesville, where Hughes was born, saw a sizable influx of people. Bouncers’ legitimacy was contested for a while. The death was determined to be accidental following an inquest, but it has shocked the cricketing community and it still continues to send chills whenever a player is hit by a bouncer.
