Abhishek Sharma: Indian opener Abhishek Sharma who has been unable to score a single run in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 has been blasted by a former Pakistani speedster who shocked Team India in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final.
In a recent interview on the popular Tabish Hashmi show, Mohammad Amir labelled the Indian opener as a “slogger.” Amir claimed that Abhishek is more likely to fail since he plays an extremely high-risk brand of cricket.
DON'T MISS
Amir was immediately criticized for his comments on the Indian opener. However, he reiterated his comments on Abhishek during the same show a few days later.
Comments Of Mohammad Amir On Abhishek Sharma
Amir remarked that Abhishek bats like a “slogger” and is yet to be tested in overseas conditions in SENA cricket, referring to South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.
Amir remarked that Abhishek doesn’t have the skills to block the cricket ball by getting in its line. The former Pakistani speedster also remarked that the ball goes out of the cricket ground if he connects, and results have been favourable for him as he plays on short boundaries and on flat pitches.
Amir added that he would be quick to accept that Abhishek Sharma is a great batsman if score well in the SENA countries.
The Poor Form Of Abhishek Sharma
The left-hander opener entered the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 in red-hot form. However, he is yet to score a single run in three outings. Abhishek was out for a golden duck in the Cup’s first match against USA. Against Pakistan, he was out again for a duck on the fourth ball of the match. The match against the Netherlands was no different as he was out for a duck in three balls. He didn’t play the match against Namibia.
Would the Super 8 stage see a different Abhishek Sharma? However, things look challenging for Abhishek as India is placed against West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe in the Super 8 stage.
