AFG vs SL Asia Cup 2023: In the knockout match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka, Rashid Khan’s weird runout to the Lankan batter became the highlight of the match. The leg-spinner swiftly changed the game’s lead by dismissing Kusal Mendis for a score of 92 runs, missing out his century by just 8 runs.
Kusal Mendis misses century
Following the loss of three wickets during the powerplay, Kusal Mendis led Sri Lanka‘s recovery. His remarkable batting swiftly put his team in a commanding position. Kusal Mendis appeared on course for a century, seemingly unaffected by Afghanistan’s bowlers. However, Rashid Khan displayed exceptional skills, resulting in an unusual dismissal. Although the leg-spinner initially dropped the catch, luck favoured him as he still managed to dismiss the batsman.
Rashid Khan delivered a low full toss to Dasun Shanaka, who chipped it back towards the bowler. Although the leg-spinner attempted to catch the ball, it slipped through his hands and struck the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Unfortunately, Kusal Mendis, positioned at the non-striker’s end, couldn’t make it back in time and fell short of the crease. This unfortunate turn of events denied him what could have been a remarkable century.
