AFG vs SL: Afghanistan and Sri Lanka competed for their league stage match today at Brisbane. The result of the match turned out in the favour of Sri Lanka as they won it with 6 wickets remaining. The Mohammad Nabi-led team gave the Lankans opportunity to bowl first, and scored 144/8 after their inning of 20 overs. In response, Sri Lanka chased down the target with 9 balls remaining.
However, during the 1st innings, an interesting instance happened. Gulbadin Naib, who took over for the injured Hazratullah Zazai during Afghanistan’s batting innings due to a groyne injury he sustained, was run out by the Lankan team when he “slipped” while returning to the crease. Watch Video:
Mohammad Nabi, the captain, could be seen leaving the crease in the video in an effort to get two runs for his team. The fielder (Pathum Nissanka), who was nearby, prevented Naib from advancing for the second run while he was present at the other end. Naib was quickly ran out as he stumbled while attempting to return to the crease after Nissanka made a rapid ball to the keeper.
There are still two games left for Sri Lanka, including the one they are currently playing against Afghanistan. They have a net run rate of negative 0.890. With two points, the team is in second-to-last place in Group 1. To have any chance of making it to the semi-finals, they must win both of their games.
