Sourav Ganguly Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli received high praise from former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who offered him valuable advice to exercise caution and leave the ball outside the off stump in the challenging conditions at the Oval during the World Test Championship Final against Australia. With India losing their openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma early on Day 2 of the crucial encounter, the responsibility fell on Kohli’s shoulders to lead the team’s resurgence. While the batter was on crease, Sourav Ganguly, the commentator, praised him. This was surprising for fans as there are several rumours of a big rift amongst Kohli and Ganguly.

What did Sourav Ganguly say on Virat Kohli?

At the Tea break, Virat Kohli remained undefeated on 4 runs, accompanied by Cheteshwar Pujara, while India trailed by a substantial 432 runs after Australia’s first-innings total of 469. Sourav Ganguly remarked that Kohli is well-versed in batting under such circumstances, highlighting his impressive track record in Test cricket, which Ganguly considers to be the ‘best ever’ achieved by any player, as stated by the former Indian skipper.

Ganguly stated, “He has to leave the deliveries outside off stump which he has already done. today, a few times just before tea, he knows how to score runs in these conditions. His Test record is very good, his ODI Record is probably the best ever in the history of One Day Cricket and he will know what the situation requires.”

In addition, the esteemed former captain of the Indian cricket team provided further guidance, advising the batsmen to refrain from playing at deliveries outside the off stump while capitalizing on any loose deliveries to generate scoring opportunities.

Sourav Ganguly speaks on Pujara

Speaking on Pujara, he said, “Same with Pujara, they both have played 100 Test matches, immense experience, they have been in this situation, many a number of times and they fought the situations where in the past. Make sure where your off-stump is and every time there is a scoring opportunity keeps scoring runs because that will put the pressure back on Australia.”

Virat Kohli failed to capitalise on the situation and could score just 14 runs. Team India currently trails by 318 runs and has lost five wickets as well. Ajinka Rahane (29* off 71) and KS Bharat (5* off 14) are currently on the crease. India requires at least 119 runs more to get past the follow-on.
