AUSW vs SAW T20 World Cup 2023: On February 26, during the Women’s T20 World Cup final against South Africa at Newlands, skipper Meg Lanning made history by becoming the first cricket player, across men’s and women’s cricket, to serve as a captain in 100 T20Is. Women in Blue’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and England’s skipper Charlotte Edwards are behind her, having respectively captained in 96 and 93 T20Is.

Meg Lanning way ahead than Aaron

In men’s cricket, Aaron Finch, a former international cricketer, has captained the most in T20Is, with 76 from 2014 to 2022. In 2014, Meg Lanning took over as the permanent captain of the Australian team following the retirement of Jodie Fields from all forms of cricket. Since then, Australia has made a name for itself in high-level cricket under her leadership.

Meg Lanning has not only excelled as a captain but also as a batter. She is the second-highest run-scorer in Women’s T20Is, following New Zealand’s Suzie Bates. During the ongoing World Cup, Lanning has exhibited precise captaincy skills. Under her leadership, Australia won all four of their matches, securing the top spot in Group A. However, in the semi-final match against India in Cape Town, Lanning’s team once found themselves in a difficult position but ultimately won.
