“Backup Keeper Is Not Necessary” Ravi Shastri Gives An Interesting Solution To India’s Middle Order Problems For ODI World Cup 2023

ODI World Cup 2023: With less than two months left for ODI World Cup 2023, everyone is looking for middle-order solutions for team India. With the injury to KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant, the slot for middle-order keeper-batsman is wide open.

The selectors have been trying different players in the middle-order position for a while now. But so far, only Ishan Kishan has been able to impress, which has left the second slot for the keeper-batsman wide open.

But former Indian coach Ravi Shashtri has given a very innovative solution, and former Indian selector Sandeep Patil has also agreed. And the solution is to select only one keeper initially.

No Backup Keeper Needed

Ravi Shastri stated on Star Sports that Ishan Kishan can act as an opening partner to Rohit Sharma. At the same time, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma can handle the middle order.

Former Indian international Sandeep Patil agreed with the solution. He said that Tilak and Surya can play XI depending on the situation and opponents. This option will open lots of variables for India.

Patil further clarified that this option will block the second wicket-keeper option in the squad. He further stated that a backup keeper wouldn’t be necessary. Because the tournament is at home, Sanu Samson can be roped in overnight if something happens to Ishan Kishan.

Hopeful For KL Rahul’s Return For ODI World Cup 2023

All these solutions given by Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil are in a situation where KL Rahul does not return. If Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul can return to their fitness, they will be automatically selected for the squad.

After all, no other batsman has performed as well as these two in the middle order. And including KL Rahul will give India much-needed balance in the tournament.
