BCCI’s Money Bonanza! Projected to Rake in 1889 crores Annually in ICC’s New Finance Mode, 38.5% of total revenue

BCCI

BCCI: The ICC has proposed a new finance model that predicts the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will receive 38.5% of the annual earnings during the 2024-27 cycle. It is important to highlight that the revenue distribution model estimates the ICC’s total revenue to be US$ 600 million, with the BCCI expected to receive a larger portion compared to other cricket boards. The total money earned by BCCI would be 230 Million Dollars i.e. 1889 crores roughly in INR.

BCCI leads revenue share

Based on the new model for the upcoming cycle, it is expected that the BCCI will earn approximately US$ 230 million annually from the ICC’s earnings. In contrast, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA), the other two major cricket boards, are projected to earn US$ 41.33 million i.e. 336 crores INR (or 6.89%) and US$ 37.53 million i.e. 307 Crores INR (or 6.25%) respectively.

The ICC’s annual revenue is significantly bolstered by media rights sales, surpassing US$ 3.2 billion. The majority of these rights are obtained from the Indian market, where Disney Star has secured a lucrative deal of over US$ 3 billion for a four-year period. Apart from the ‘Big Three’ (BCCI, CA, and ECB), the remaining nine Full Members, including the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), are projected to earn more than US$ 30 million in media rights revenue.

Based on the current projections from the ICC, the BCCI is expected to earn approximately US$ 924 million in the upcoming cycle. However, if the ICC experiences a significant increase in its overall earnings, there is a chance that the BCCI could surpass the billion-dollar mark.

Rise in BCCI’s revenue

This would result in an impressive 82% increase for the BCCI compared to the second-highest earner, the ECB, which is projected to receive only US$ 165 million in the 2024-27 cycle. The ICC’s proposed model is still awaiting feedback from Full Members before being implemented fully. If the deal is finalized, it is possible that certain nations on the Full Member list may see a decrease in the value of their broadcast rights.
