Former captain Australian Ricky Ponting believes that India’s ‘serious wounds’ have been refreshed after the embarrassing defeat of Adelaide and this is Australia’s best chance to make a clean sweep in the four-Test series.
India were bowled out for 36 in their second innings in the first Test match played under the lights. Australia won the match by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Ponting told cricket.com.au, ‘Now some serious wounds have opened up. This can be a good chance (for a clean sweep).
He said, ‘Expect positive results in Melbourne and if we do that then it will be difficult for India to come back and win a match.’
India will be without captain Virat Kohli in the remaining three Tests, who will return on paternity leave and Ponting said that this will be a real test for the visiting team under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane.
