IPL 2023

IPL 2023: Ahead of their crucial match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Mumbai Indians have been dealt a significant blow with the news of England pacer Jofra Archer’s absence from the IPL 2023. The Mumbai Indians confirmed on Tuesday that Chris Jordan will be joining the squad for the remainder of the season. Archer’s contributions for the team have been limited, having played just five matches and taking only two wickets at an economy rate of 9.50.

Chris Jordan arrives in IPL 2023

Chris Jordan has been brought in as a replacement for Jofra Archer, who is currently under the monitoring of the ECB regarding his recovery and fitness. Jofra will be heading back home to concentrate on his rehabilitation. This unfortunate turn of events comes after Archer’s recent return to international cricket, having overcome a lengthy absence of nearly two years due to elbow and back injuries that posed a significant threat to his professional career.

On the other hand, Chris Jordan, who went unsold with a base price of Rs 2 crore during the December auction, brings his wealth of experience to the Mumbai Indians. The 34-year-old all-rounder has previously represented the ECB, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Making his IPL debut in 2016, Jordan has accumulated 27 wickets in 28 matches in the tournament.

With a notable record in international cricket, he has featured in 87 T20Is for England, claiming an impressive tally of 96 wickets. Jordan’s most recent IPL appearance was in 2022 for the Super Kings, where he made four appearances and took two wickets.

ECB stated, “The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) can confirm that fast bowler Jofra Archer will return from the Indian Premier League with immediate effect. Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery. However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging. Therefore, it has been agreed for him to return to the UK for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery.”
