CPL 2023: First Ever Red Card In Cricket History As Sunil Narine Faces the Wrath; Watch Here

CPL 2023: Sunil Narine was part of a historic moment in cricket but for all the wrong reasons. Before the start of the Carribean Premier League 2023 season, a new rule of Red Card was being introduced.

According to the rule, if any team is behind the over rate, one of their players will be shown a red card. This means that for the remainder of the inning, the player will have to sit out of the match.

During the match between Tribango Knight Riders and St Kitts, Sunil Narine became the first person to get shown the red card. Sunil Narine has many records to his name but would like to forget this one.

Historic Moment In CPL 2023

During the 20th over of the first inning, the umpire figured that Knight Riders were behind the over rate. According to the over rate, if the team is behind the over rate in the 18th over, one additional player must enter the 30-yard circle. If the team is still behind in the 19th over, another player will enter the circle.

If the team is still behind by the start of the 20th over, the bowling team will lose a player and six players must be inside the circle. That is exactly what Knight Riders had to face in the last over of the first innings.

The player who has to sit out would be selected by the captain. So, when Pollard was asked about the choice, he stated Narine to be the player. But both Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were very unhappy with the rule.

Pollard Furious

Kieron Pollard was furious with the rule and red card being shown to his player. He stated "To be honest, it will take away the hard work everyone has done. We are like the pawns and we are going to do what we are told. We are going to play as fast as we can. If you are penalized for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is absolutely ridiculous."
