Cricket Viral Video: At the age of 18, Pat Cummins marked his Test debut in 2011 with a sensational performance, securing the Player of the Match accolade for his remarkable contributions with both the bat and ball for Australia in their encounter against South Africa.
Pat Cummins’s fiery debut
In the second match of the series held in Johannesburg, Pat Cummins achieved his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Hashim Amla in the first innings. Amla, batting at the No.3 position, attempted to drive a full-length delivery outside the off-stump but ended up edging it to Ricky Ponting at second slip after facing 70 deliveries. Cummins claimed his only wicket of the innings as South Africa was bowled out for 266, having chosen to bat first.
Although Cummins contributed only 2 runs off 7 balls in the first innings, Australia managed to secure a lead of 30 runs. However, the dynamics shifted when Australia had the opportunity to bowl again. Joining forces with Mitchell Johnson, Cummins proved to be unplayable with the new ball, resulting in the dismissal of Jacques Rudolph as South Africa lost their first wicket. His spell against Jacques Kallis was particularly impressive and left the on-air commentators in awe.
With his fiery pace, the young prodigy bombarded the seasoned all-rounder with a barrage of short-pitched deliveries aimed at his chest. Clocking in at 90mph, the rockets swung away, causing Jacques Kallis to repeatedly play and miss, while also feeling the intimidation factor. Cummins’ persistence paid off when the experienced batsman chased a ball angled away from the off-stump, resulting in an inside edge that found the safe hands of Michael Clarke at first slip.

Cummins continued his exceptional performance, claiming a remarkable six-wicket haul. Among his victims were the likes of AB de Villiers, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, and Morne Morkel, concluding with impressive figures of 6-79. These figures set a new record for the best debut performance by an Australian player. Additionally, Cummins batted during a crucial phase of the match, facing off against 15 deliveries and striking two boundaries, including the match-winning boundary that sealed victory for his team. As a result, he was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match honour in his very first Test.
