This extraordinary feat occurred in Johannesburg during the second ODI encounter against West Indies. In an astonishing display of skill, de Villiers managed to accumulate a remarkable 100 runs in a mere 31 balls, etching his name in the record books.

In doing so, ABD shattered the previous record held by New Zealand’s Corey Anderson, who had achieved a century in 36 balls the year prior. As of now, De Villiers’ record remains unbroken, as no other player has managed to surpass this exceptional feat.

AB De Villiers creates history

In an astonishingly short span of time, he swiftly accumulated 50 runs in just 16 deliveries. Continuing his formidable momentum, he reached the century mark in an additional 15 balls. He was on the cusp of establishing yet another record, aiming for a 150-run milestone, when his innings was halted abruptly by a clean bowled dismissal at 149 runs. ABD’s commanding performance played a pivotal role in propelling his team to an imposing total of 439 runs during their match against West Indies.

During the same match, South African opening batsmen Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw also achieved individual centuries. Their collaborative effort led to a substantial partnership, yielding a total of 247 runs in 38 overs before Rossouw was dismissed. Meanwhile, Amla’s innings concluded undefeated at 153 runs, garnered from 142 deliveries.

Records by AB De Villiers

The year 2015 was dominated by ABD’s remarkable presence as he orhestrated a comeback to fulfill an unfinished mission – establishing the record for the fastest 150 runs in an ODI. His resurgence was highlighted during the ICC World Cup 2015, where he delivered a breathtaking performance, amassing a rapid 162 runs from just 66 balls. Notably, he also achieved the distinction of achieving the quickest 150 in ODI history, accomplishing this feat in a mere 64 balls. Interestingly, this record-setting achievement once again occurred in a match against West Indies.

Although ABD has since retired from all forms of international cricket, his legacy is defined by his numerous records. Throughout his illustrious career, he participated in 228 ODIs, accumulating an impressive total of 9577 runs at an average of 53.5. In Test matches, he further showcased his prowess by compiling a total of 8765 runs across 114 matches.
