Cricket Viral Video: Making his first-class debut for Somerset, Shoaib Bashir mesmerized the crowd with his off-breaks, expertly deceiving Alastair Cook as the ball spun past the outside edge not once, but twice, in the very first over of his career.

Shoaib troubles veteran Alastair Cook

After commencing his career at Surrey, Shoaib Bashir showcased his skills and left a mark at the age-group level before eventually transitioning to Somerset through Berkshire. Making his debut for Somerset's Second XI in 2022, he displayed remarkable bowling prowess, securing figures of 3-51 and 4-12 against the Surrey Seconds. Shortly thereafter, he continued his impressive form with a stellar performance of 5-44 against Warwickshire Seconds. In 2023, Bashir secured a contract with Somerset for the season and exhibited his talent once again, claiming impressive figures of 4-49 against Northamptonshire Seconds.

The following day, Shoaib Bashir marked his first-class debut in a County Championship encounter against Essex. Stepping onto the field, he was confronted by a well-established Alastair Cook, who boasted an impressive record of two decades, over 26,000 runs, and 73 centuries, along with a formidable reputation for his ability to handle spin bowling.

Delivering his second ball, Bashir pitched it on the stumps, catching Cook off guard. Despite attempting a forward defensive shot, Cook was taken by surprise as the ball sharply spun and bounced, soaring above Somerset's wicketkeeper James Rew, who had to stretch well above his waist to collect it. The fourth delivery further eluded Cook's bat, evading Rew's gloves as well. Cook managed to see out the remainder of the over, resulting in a maiden for Bashir.
