Cricket Viral Video: Kapil Dev’s excellence in cricket set him apart in numerous aspects. He was a fiercely competitive player and is still regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the sport’s history. While he delivered exceptional bowling performances, showed remarkable batting skills, and secured memorable victories, it’s the smaller moments that continue to live with fans. A notable example is when Kapil Dev smashed four sixes to prevent the team from facing the follow-on.

Kapil Dev smashes four sixes

During the 1990 match against England at Lord’s, England chose to bat first and posted an impressive total of 633 runs in their first innings, largely related to captain Graham Gooch’s remarkable triple century and centuries by Allan Lamb and Robin Smith. While Ravi Shastri and Mohammad Azharuddin also achieved centuries for India, the team’s overall performance lagged behind England’s due to a lack of substantial contributions from other players. India found themselves in a diffucult position, struggling at 430/9, but it was Kapil Dev who emerged as the saviour on that day.

Prior to deciding to hit Eddie Hemmings for four consecutive sixes, India required 24 runs to avoid the follow-on. Kapil Dev swiftly went down the pitch and dispatched Hemmings over the long-on boundary for the first two sixes. The third one, while not as impressive, still cleared the long-on boundary. The fourth and final six was the most remarkable, soaring a considerable distance through the air.

As Kapil Dev smashed the fourth six, spectators on the Lord’s balcony erupted in applause, and he jubilantly punched the air in celebration. Unfortunately, with Graham Gooch achieving another century in the second innings, India couldn’t secure a victory in the test match and ended up losing by a margin of 247 runs. However, Kapil Dev’s memorable feat of hitting four consecutive sixes during the game will forever be etched in cricketing memories.
