Cricket Viral Video: When Ricky Ponting was playing a test match against Pakistan in Sharjah, he faced a major setback that could have potentially ended his career and even his life. In one of a match, he was playing without his helmet and was hit by a brutal bouncer just on his head. However, he quickly rose up and stood to his feet.
Brutal bouncer to Ricky Ponting
The match was played in extreme heat, with temperatures reaching as high as 51 degrees Celsius, making it incredibly challenging for the players. Ponting was struggling with the heat and found his helmet to be making it even more difficult to play. So, to try and cool down, he swapped it with the Australian test cap. However, during his innings, he was hit by a nasty ball from Pakistan’s Mohd Sami which didn’t bounce as high as he anticipated, leaving him vulnerable and resulting in a blow to his jaw. This incident could have had serious consequences for Ponting.
The ball rose off from just behind the length, catching Ponting on the front foot and leaving him unsure whether to duck under it or charge the ball. In the end, he took his eyes off the ball and was hit directly in the jaw. The impact was so strong that Ponting fell to the ground immediately, the sound of the ball hitting his jaw as loud as a ball hitting a bat.
Despite the seriousness of the hit, Ricky Ponting managed to get back on his feet quickly after the incident. The team physio was there to check on him immediately, and while it appeared to be just a slight hurt to those watching, it was actually a more serious injury. However, the fact that the blow landed on his jaw rather than his face was a bit of a positive, as a hit to the skull could have been much more dangerous. However, this did not affect his performance as he continued smashing big hits from thereon.

It was fortunate that Ricky Ponting survived the moment and it did not affect him extensively. Australian batter Phil Hughes lost his life in a similar kind of incident where he lost his life after being hit by a bouncer.
