Cricket Viral Video: Getting out due to Mankad can be really upsetting for cricket players. The incident hurts even more when a batter gets set on the crease but has to leave for the pavilion due to a minor mistake. A similar incident happened in a domestic match in Australia, in which, the batter was dismissed and threw his bat in anger while he was on his way back to the dugout.

Australian batter loses cool

A video shared by an Australian media channel on social media showed a bowler stopping in his run-up and taking off the bails after seeing the non-striking batsman wandering out of his crease. The umpire declared the batsman out according to the rules, but the batsman was unhappy with the decision. This mode of dismissal, known as ‘Mankad,’ is legal but many believe it goes against the spirit of the game.

The incident took place in the match between Claremont and New Norfolk. Claremont was chasing a target of 263, and the batter Kaye had made 43 runs off 55 balls with three sixes. However, their progress was halted when New Norfolk vice-captain Harry Booth spotted the batter moving out of his crease and ran him out at the non-striker’s end by removing the bails. Despite the run-out being within the rules, the batter, Kaye, was visibly upset and threw his helmet and bat toward the boundary while his teammates protested the decision. The teammates were also disappointed with the dismissal and were seen expressing their frustration.

In cricket, there has always been a debate around the legitimacy of a bowler running out the non-striking batsman for leaving the crease too early. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) made a major change to the rules last year, whereby this mode of dismissal is now considered a legitimate “run out” rather than “unfair play”.
