The Cricket Viral Video features a video of Arjun Ranatunga fighting against the whole Australian board to save Murlidharan career. Watch.

Cricket Viral Video: Muttiah Murlidharan needs no introduction. From the beginning of his career, he was a complete class. He had the capability to take the spin to an entirely new level.

So what happened just because he has an unorthodox action? Well, Cricket Australia told the umpires to accuse him of chucking. I mean, that was the most obvious answer, wasn’t it?

And even after ICC cleared him of any sort of chucking and gave him a clean slate, CA decided to ignore that and created a plot involving umpires, media, and players to destroy his career.

The Heinious Plot

In 1995, the ICC rules stated that a bowler can’t straighten his arms after bending it and the umpires will be the judge of that entirely. In 1995, Umpire Darrell Hair and Emerson forced Murli to be dropped from the team by calling no balls on both his off-spin and leg break.

The off-spinner went through an extensive test under ICC and his action was declared completely legal. That’s when Australian Cricket Board decided to take things into their own hands. Media was filled with articles calling Murli a chucker. But things turned for worst during the match.

In a tri-nation series match between England and Sri Lanka, the nightmare started once again. Umpire Emerson returned after being called by ACB. And he called no ball as soon as the match started.

But the Australian board forgot one thing Murlidharan had Arjun Ranatunga as a captain and he would go to any bound to save his player. He caused umpires of cheating and pointed fingers at them. He cited the decision by ICC.

But when Emerson did not budge, Ranatunga looked at the umpires, shake the English player’s hands, and just left the field with his team. No one thought Arjun could do that. Even commentators were hailing this decision.

Things only calmed down when the Srilanka board and ACB had a talk and Murali was allowed to bowl leg break. But as they forgot, Ranatunga was tired of seeing his player getting abused and he told Murali to bowl however he want.

And Murali bowled however he wanted and Emerson could not do anything. Ranatunga was handed a 6-match ban and 75% match fees. But he saved the career of a man that would go on to redefine spin for everyone.
