Cricket Viral Video: The Wall turns into tornado ! Watch Rahul Dravid’s blistering 22-ball-50 against Australia

Cricket Viral Video: Rahul Dravid smashed the feeble New Zealand ODI defence in Hyderabad in 2003, unleashing an unusually ferocious blow. Australia, the defending TVS Cup champions, had already secured a spot in the championship game. The last league game, which took place at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium between the hosts India and New Zealand, was almost a semifinal.

Rahul Dravid scores joint-second fastest ODI fifty by Indian

Following Sourav Ganguly’s decision to bat, Virender Sehwag (130 in 134 balls) and Sachin Tendulkar (102 in 91) gave India a rousing start by combining for 182 runs at little over a run per ball. When Dravid came out to bat, India had amassed 283-3 in 43.4 overs thanks to Ganguly’s 33 off of 31 balls as well.

The hitters had made the transition. Although Kyle Mills caught Yuvraj Singh with the first ball of the following over, he still had the strike. Dravid’s first four goals came from a flick off Scott Styris. He lofted one over extra cover after two balls for a six.

India was 309-5 after 47 overs when VVS Laxman was removed by Daryl Tuffey, but Dravid then went off like crazy. In response to a high full-toss from Jacob Oram, Dravid blasted a ball that went god alone knows where over mid-wicket. The next over saw Tuffey score for four after an impromptu paddle semi-flick for four and two fours.

The last over also included a rough six over wide long-on from Oram. Dravid slid down on his front leg and square drove to take up two on the final ball, which was overpitched way outside off. Even the stony-faced John Wright could not help but smile at David’s celebrations, which were unusual by his standards. He had scored the joint second-fastest ODI fifty by an Indian.

At 22 balls, this still remains the joint-fastest, after Ajit Agarkar’s 21-ball effort against Zimbabwe in 2000/01. Dravid is tied with Kapil Dev (1982/83), Sehwag (2001/02), and Yuvraj (2004/05). India finished with 353-5 and bowled out New Zealand for 208 to qualify for the final. There, they lost to Australia.
