Umesh Yadav made a triumphant debut for Essex in the County Championship, where he had been signed for three games this season. Facing his former team, Middlesex, he claimed three wickets in the second innings, contributing significantly to Essex’s commanding 297-run victory.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat first, Essex managed to score 304 runs with openers Nick Browne and Alastair Cook both reaching fifty, while Joshua de Caires recorded his career-best figures of 8-106 for Middlesex. In reply, Middlesex struggled and were dismissed for 179, largely due to Jamie Porter’s six-wicket haul. In the first innings, Umesh Yadav bowled nine overs, conceding 27 runs but was unable to claim a wicket.

Middlesex’s chase faced early setbacks with the loss of two wickets within the first 11 overs. Umesh Yadav entered the attack during the 12th over and displayed excellent control over his line and length. In his second over, he secured the dismissal of Jack Davies, who was caught at first slip, and in his fourth over, he claimed the wicket of Mark Stoneman, who was caught at third slip.

Middlesex eventually collapsed for a total of 147, with just under ten minutes remaining before stumps on the final day. Simon Harmer claimed five wickets, while Umesh finished with figures of 3-32 off his 12 overs.
