David Warner: In the second ODI against South Africa, Australian batsman David Warner achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar to become the leading opener in international cricket with the most centuries.
David Warner slams unforgettable century
During the match, Warner showcased his exceptional skills, delivering a brilliant performance by scoring 106 runs off 93 balls. His innings included 12 fours and three sixes, resulting in a striking strike rate of 113.97. This century marked Warner’s 46th in international cricket, a record for an opener, with 20 centuries in ODIs, 25 in Tests, and one in T20Is.
Warner has surpassed Tendulkar’s record of 45 international centuries as an opener, with all of Tendulkar’s centuries in this category coming in ODIs. Additionally, David Warner has now equalled England’s Joe Root, both boasting 46 international centuries, making them the second-highest among active players in this regard.
At the pinnacle of the international century chart amongst active player stands India’s star batsman, Virat Kohli, with a total of 76 international centuries, which is also the second-highest overall. Kohli’s remarkable feat includes 46 ODI centuries, 29 Test centuries, and one T20I century.
David Warner registers new records
Furthermore, David Warner has now surpassed Matthew Hayden to claim the eighth position among Australia’s highest ODI run-scorers. With 6,136 runs in 144 ODIs, Warner boasts an impressive average of 45.11, including 20 centuries and 27 half-centuries in 142 innings, with his highest score being 179. In contrast, Hayden scored 6,131 runs in 160 ODIs, averaging 44.10, with 10 centuries and 36 half-centuries. Australia’s all-time top run-scorer in ODIs remains former captain Ricky Ponting, who amassed a staggering 13,589 runs at an average of 41.81, featuring 29 centuries and 82 half-centuries.
