DC vs UPW WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals have stormed to the finale of the first Women’s Premier League. In the last group stage match, they defeated UP Warriorz by five wickets. They won the toss and decided to bowl first. Eventually, they restricted UPW to a total of 138/6 in 20 overs which Delhi Capitals chased down with ease in 17.5 overs.
The victory boosted their net run rate and put them above Mumbai Indians on the points table, giving them entry to the finale. Now, UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians will clash in the semi-final game on the 24th of March.
Delhi Capitals rally with smooth chase
Delhi Capitals came into the chase in their usual aggressive kind of game. Skipper and opener Meg Lanning scored 39 off 23 balls, hitting five boundaries and two maximums. Shafali Verma scored 21 off 16 balls while also smashing four boundaries. Jemimah Rodrigues failed to get going and was dismissed for 3 off 3. Alice Capsey and Marizanne Kepp played a game-defining knock, scoring 34 and 34* respectively. Shabnim Ismail picked up a couple of wickets whereas Yashasri & Ecclestone picked one as well.
Tahlia McGrath’s brave knock
Earlier, Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bowl first in the match. UP Warriorz did not have a great start in the game. Tahlia McGrath was the highest scorer for the team, who came after regular fall of wickets. She hit 8 boundaries and two maximums, scoring 58 runs off 32 balls. Her quickfire innings pushed the team towards a decent total.
Skipper Allysa Healy also scored 36 off 34 whereas Shweta Sehrawat scored 19 off 12 balls. None of the other batters could do much significance in the game. Alice Capsey picked up three wickets whereas Radha Yadav picked two and Jonassen picked one as well.
